Link building is one of the MAJOR building blocks of a successful SEO campaign. Oddly enough it's also one of the harder tasks to do, mainly because it takes TIME, and time is something small business owners just don't have enough of. So what do you do? Well you could hire a Local SEO company to do it for you, you could hire someone to do it in house although that would be the most expensive way. Or you could do it yourself.

First let me say that I'm all for hiring out someone who specializes in the task at hand. If your business is a division of a larger business, a great place to get a link is on the main corporations site. Or if your business is a franchise have a link to your site on the corporate page is a very valuable link to have.

Its always better to have links from industry related sites, they hold a little more weight that just any old link. For instance lets say your a plumber contractor, it would be better to have a link from a bathroom designer than an Eye Doctor. Strategic partners are a great way to spread the link juice. Have a link on their website of blog is ideal.

Trade Shows and Speaking Events

So you'll be attending an industry show or maybe speaking at an industry event, these are fairly easy links to get and hold a lot of weigh because they are more than likely ranked sites and best of all industry related.

Social Bookmarking Sites

Start signing up for some popular social bookmarking sites, these are great ways to get some links and very easy.

These ideas are some of the low hanging fruit in the link building world and a good place to start. Many may be NoFollow Links like the social media sites, but I still encourage you to use them. Although NoFollow links don't pass the juice they are still good to have because they pass eye balls that could result in conversions, and at the end of the day it's all about conversions right?
