4 Link Building Ideas You Can Use To Increase Your Visibility In Search

Is there such a thing as a low-quality link? In the direct sense yes there is, however in the indirect sense then every link can be considered valuable if it eventually leads to some desirable action i.e. an increase in your visibility in search.

The truth is, there are standard forms of link building that everyone relies on including article marketing, press release distribution and the occasional guest blog post - however, how do you adapt your approach to link building? How do you build links which actually generate links?

The first approach you can use is to start a competition. Competitions are an absolutely fantastic solution for building up a lot of "buzz" around your brand - what's more, they are a sure fire hit for attracting links, too. The great thing about competitions is that they actually give you a "reason" to post links - classified ads, comments, even approaching a person in your network of contacts to ask if they would consider linking to you; you have a sure fire reason as to why they should.

Another, less common, approach is controversy. Nothing attracts links like a bit of controversy, or even something which runs against the "norm." As a recent example, consider Jim Carrey's proclamation of love for "Emma Stone" - it attracted so much attention, and so many links, that his site crashed (I'm not presuming that you are Jim Carrey, but the analogy still works). Nothing stirs up a link building fever like a bit of controversy.

A third example is the humble testimonial - is there a product that you use on a daily basis that you would be happy to wholeheartedly endorse? If so, then what are you waiting for? Get in touch with the product creator, provide them with a testimonial and give them full permission to re-publish the testimonial on their website (and obviously, subtly, point them in the direction of your website, too).

Finally, if you want to build links and you want to increase your visibility in search (and you really want to act against the "norm), then focus on relationships - relationships make the web work. Focus on the people in your network, offer them reciprocal arrangements, even make a guest post on their website and advertise some of your services. If you want to succeed with link building, and you really want to make it to the top of the tree in your niche, then relationships are where it's (and they're what you need to be building).
