Post Acid Reflux Disease ?   Acid Reflux Disease ? Date-310Sun Sep 12, 2010 3:46 am

Acid Reflux is a condition and not a disease! Unless of course youthink in terms of Dis-Ease, which basically means uneasy orill-at-ease.

It has become all too easy for the medicalcommunity to label simple health problems as diseases, when in factmany of them are just conditions, which in the majority of cases can becorrected without the use of toxic drugs.

Reflux in thedictionary is defined as a backward flow. However a simple burp orbelch is also classified as reflux and we all know that burping is nota disease. Burping or belching is a natural function of the human body, and occurs when the stomach pressure gets too high. Much like apressure relief valve, the act of burping lowers stomach pressure.

The pressure in the stomach is always being exerted against the LowerEsophageal Sphincter valve, and when the pressure becomes too great itforces the valve open. The pressure continues to build up in ouresophagus until it reaches a point where the Upper Esophageal Sphinctervalve is forced open and the acidic stomach gases come rushing out ofour mouths. We define this as a burp or belch. It is normal!

When food reaches the stomach, it displaces the liquid contents in thestomach which causes the liquid level to rise. This not only increasesthe stomach pressure but also the, pressure being exerted against theLES valve. Thats why we burp after a meal, or having a beverage.

A stomach disorder like H.pylori bacterium or a peptic ulcer willincrease stomach pressure also and may cause bloating. Bloating ispressure, and as we know now, too much pressure causes reflux.

Being too acidic or having your pH levels on the acidic side will alsocause bloating, burping, and you may even experience flatulence morethan normal. Anyone who has ever had too much to drink is very familiarwith all of these symptoms. Alcohol is acidic, and so is the mix thatyou use. They both contain sugar, which is very acidic.

Thereare also other things that can increase stomach pressure, such asH.pylori bacterium, a peptic ulcer or gastritis. Even anger, frustration and stress all contribute to stomach pressure.

Oneof the major causes of stomach pressure and reflux is when the body isin an acidic state. Meaning that your pH levels have fallen below thedesired range of 7.3 to 7.4. Symptoms of being too acidic are burping, belching, stomach bloating and flatulence more than normal.

Not only will high acid levels have an effect on your overall health, they are also a major cause of diseases like cancer and heart disease.

In fact many cases of cancer have been completely reversed when peoplehave shifted their pH levels from being too acidic to an alkalinestate. Even mild acidity over time can cause health problems likecardiovascular damage, all forms of cancer, diabetes, kidney andgallstones, high blood pressure, Alzheimers, sinusitis, osteoporosis(bone loss) and many other health problems which can be prevented bykeeping our bodies in an alkaline state.

This simple at hometest will determine if you are too acidic, and could save you manyhealth disorders that acidic people face on a daily basis.

CHECKING pH LEVELS

You can purchase some Litmus Paper at the health food store, and checkthe acidity of your saliva. You fill your mouth with saliva a couple oftimes and then spit into a container. Dip the end of your test paperinto the saliva and leave it there until it changes color. Then matchyour test paper up with the color chart on the package that the papercame in and you will see a value or a number. Your reading should bearound 7.3 to 7.4, values lower than these are acidic and should becorrected. Do the test in the morning when your stomach is empty andthen again in the evening before you retire and then you will have anaverage reading.
